Film Bangkok is a division of BEC -Tero Entertainment Public Co., Ltd., which is a subsidiary of BEC World Public Co., Ltd., one of the biggest entertainment companies in Asia. The company has been operating various entertainment activities including radio and television broadcasting and producing entertainment through various media such as television, radio, movies, music, internet, print, home video and satellite broadcasting.

BEC World has proven successful for more than 31 years and is accepted worldwide in the film industry after producing four financial and critically successful movies under the production of Film Bangkok.

Film Bangkok was founded by a group of film producers who wished to see the Thai film industry developing into an international business. The desire transformed into a business goal. Industry experts have given young blood the chance to show their creativity and to help promote the film’s production and export into a powerful local and international industry.

Brian L. Marcar, Managing Director of the BEC-Tero Entertainment, founded Film Bangkok in 2000 to take responsibility for the production work of BEC-Tero. Mr. Adirek Wattaleela was appointed as an executive. With an experienced marketing team, Film Bangkok quickly gained public credibility. Film Bangkok’s creative talent, production standards and marketing plans made the company well-known after just two years. Its various productions became industry phenomena, especially Bang Rajan, which made a total of 152 million Baht at the Bangkok box office only and received many awards. The company is the first and the only film production company to receive the Best Service Provider at the Prime Minister’s Export Awards 2001 organized by the Finance Ministry.

     The life of an anonymous assassin takes an unexpected turn when he travels to Thailand to complete a series of contract killings. Joe (Nicolas Cage), a remorseless hitman, is in Bangkok to execute four enemies of a ruthless crime boss named Surat. He hires Kong (Shahkrit Yamnarm), a street punk and pickpocket, to run errands for him with the intention of covering his tracks by killing him at the end of the assignment. Strangely, Joe, the ultimate lone wolf, finds himself mentoring the young man instead whilst simultaneously being drawn into a tentative romance with a local shop girl. As he falls further under the sway of Bangkok’s intoxicating beauty, Joe begins toquestion his isolated existence and let down his guard …just as Surat decides it’s time to clean house

TEARS OF THE BLACK TIGER

     Tears of the Black Tiger was directed by Wisit Sasanathiang and produced by Nonsi Nimitbut. The first production of Film Bangkok gained created a great reputation in the film world. The movie was invited to participate in the 54th Cannes International Film Festival and won the Dragon and Tiger Award at the Vancouver International Film Festival.

BANGKOK DANGEROUS

     Bangkok Dangerous was produced by Nonsi Nimibut. The movie won the Fipresci Award at the Toronto Film Festival 2000.

BANG RAJAN

     Bang Rajan, directed by Thanit Chitnukun and produced by Adirek Wattaleela, is an epic film telling the story of patriotic villagers who bravely fought against the enemy. The film set a new record at the local box office in 2000.

GOAL CLUB

     Goal Club was directed by Kittikorn Riawsirikun and produced by Adirek Watleela. The teen movie, about football and gambling, created excitement among critics and audiences alike.

ANGULIMALA
Director : Suthep Tannirat

     Angulimala, a film by Suthep Tannirat, told the story of a murderous bandit who later becomes a Buddhist saint.

SOM+BANK : BANGKOK FOR SALE

     Som + Bank: Bangkok for Sale directed by Oxide Pang told a story of two different persons, a drug dealer and a young prostitute, who faced different ends. They were brought together by coincidence. Unexpected incidents brought the two together and their loneliness led them to a relationship and fight for love.

After only two years in the film industry, Film Bangkok could become the number one film production house in Thailand, picking up a Prime Minister’s Export Award 2001. There were many factors contributing to this award, such as effective marketing plans,
international production standards, and the uniqueness of the movies. The movies also benefited from Film Bangkok’s ability to identify target groups with accuracy along with clever marketing and advertising plans.

The Renaissance, a movie by Suraphong Phinitkha, is a love story during the golden age of Siam when locals had to fight to escape the colonization of France and England. A woman walked across time to change the fate of the country and her own life.

In 2002, after the film world accepted the quality and standard of the movies under the production of the Film Bangkok, BEC-Tero turned its attention back to the local market. To create smooth working process and prevent any confusion, the company founded the Chalermthai Studio to take care of the production and to produce movies that focused on local audiences.
