The Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand under the patronage of His Majesty the King and the city of Hua Hin are proud to present the 84 World Tennis Invitation Hua Hin event featuring tennis superstars world #1 Caroline Wozniacki playing world #3 Kim Clijsters.
The 84 World Tennis Invitation Hua Hin will be held at Centennial Park, InterContinental Hua Hin Resort on Saturday 1 January 2011 to usher in the auspicious New Year celebrating the anniversary of His Majesty’s seventh cycle. The event’s dream line up also features the world’s #1 men’s doubles team Bob and Mike Bryan who will play against the Thai twins Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana.
Caroline Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters are two of the most popular players in tennis and will kick off the action at 5pm. Caroline Wozniacki finished 2010 as the world’s top-ranked player and has won 12 WTA Singles titles including six in 2010.
“This last year has been an amazing one for me, achieving the #1 ranking, and I look forward to starting 2011 by playing in Thailand for the first time,” said Caroline. “I have heard great things about the country and am really excited about coming and playing a match in Thailand to mark the beginning of such an auspicious year with His Majesty the King’s 84th birthday.”
Kim Clijsters’ glittering career includes 40 WTA Singles titles including three US Open championships. Caroline and Kim have played each other twice: in the 2009 US Open final and the recent 2010 Tour Championships final in Doha. Kim won both matches. “I am thrilled to be able to start the new year playing in Hua Hin, Thailand. It will be my first visit to Thailand and I am very excited to come,” said Kim. “Caroline and I have played some great matches over the last year and I look forward to playing her again.”
The Bryan brothers will also be playing in Thailand for the first time. The twins are the winners of an amazing 65 doubles titles including nine Grand Slam championships. “We’ve never played in Thailand so it is going to be a huge thrill for us to play there,” said Mike. “The 84 World Tennis Invitation Hua Hin will be an exciting day of tennis and I hope all our Thai fans come to Hua Hin to watch us play,” added Bob.
The American twins will be a tough task for the Thai twins, but they are confident of playing a great match. “We will be determined to play our very best tennis and look forward to an exciting match,” said Sonchat.
President of the Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. Suwat Lipatapanlop said he was delighted that the two biggest names in women’s tennis had chosen to start their new year in Thailand. “Caroline and Kim are amazing players and wonderful ambassadors for tennis,” he said. “We could not imagine two better sports superstars to compete in Hua Hin on the first day of such a wonderful year for Thailand,” Khun Suwat added.
Caroline and Kim’s match will start at 5pm and will be televised live on Modernine Television Station in Thailand and around the world. The men’s doubles match will follow and fans will then be able to enjoy the food & beverage garden set up at Centennial Park, InterContinental Hua Hin Resort which will also feature live music.
Tickets for the 84 World Tennis Invitation Hua Hin are priced at Bt1,500 and go on sale at all Thaiticketmajor outlets, Major Hua Hin and the InterContinental Hua Hin Resort from Thursday 2 December.
