A shortlist of 22 applicants has now been selected from the more than 300 girls who applied to be part of the “PTT Thailand Open Ball Girl” team. The ballgirls will feature at next month’s PTT Thailand Open held at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani from 26 September to 4 October. A final list of 16 will be chosen to be ballgirls at the prestigious event. The result will be announced on www.pttthailandopen.org on Monday 10 August.
All 16 selected ball girls will participate in on-court and classroom training in the theory and practice of tennis rules and regulations. The ballgirls’ will be in addition to the regular teams of ballboys and they will be on court in many of the tournament’s feature matches.
There are six ballgirls or ballboys on court in each tennis match. Each match features two teams of six who alternate during the match. Their responsibilities include managing the use of the tennis balls during matches, which requires an understanding of the rules and regulations of the game. All the ballgirls and ballboys receive training for their role which can be very stressful with the amount of pressure that can be felt in big matches.
PTT Thailand Open 2009 will take place from 26 September – 4 October 2009 at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani. World #2 Rafael Nadal and world #7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will lead the field of top international tennis stars competing in the event. |
