Thanachart Bank is ready to take Thai audiences on a new thrilling adventure. Based on the award-winning BBC television series, “WALKING WITH DINOSAURS” brought to Thailand by Thanachart Bank is a world-class production which recreates 20 life-sized dinosaurs, including the terror of the ancient terrain, the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and brings them back to life. Audiences will be left in awe as the greatest creatures to ever walk the earth return before their eyes at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani. Watch them walk, hear them roar. Be there as they fight for survival and supremacy, from November 17-21, 2010.
After 200 million years, dinosaurs return to earth in a live theatrical arena show, "WALKING WITH DINOSAURS” featuring enormous production and advanced light and sound technology. The show has mesmerized over 2.4 million people in North America since July 2007.
A talented and experienced team of creative artists come together to produce "WALKING WITH DINOSAURS - The Arena Spectacular”. The show is directed by Scott Faris, a Broadway veteran who has worked with Harold Prince, Trevor Nunn, Michael Blakemore, Gene Saks, John Caird, Tommy Tune and Jerry Zaks. The creatures are designed and built by Sonny Tilders; the set and projected image designs are by Peter England; the show's lighting is by John Rayment, and the score composed by James Brett.

It took a team of 50 -- including engineers, fabricators, skin makers, artists and painters, and animatronic experts a full year to build the 20 dinosaurs for the original production. The studio that serves as the birth place for these gigantic creatures is in Melbourne, Australia, and it’s big enough to park a 747 aircraft.
Ten species are represented in the show, from the 200 million-year reign of the dinosaurs. The show includes the Tyrannosaurus Rex, as well as the Plateosaurus and Liliensternus from the Triassic period, the Stegosaurus and Allosaurus from the Jurassic period and the awesome Cretaceous. The largest of them, the Brachiosaurus is 45 feet tall, and 75 feet from nose to tail.
The show portrays the dinosaurs’ evolution, complete with the climatic and structural changes that took place which contributed towards their extinction. With almost cinematic realism, WALKING WITH DINOSAURS has scenes of the interactions between dinosaurs, and the audience will get to see how carnivorous dinosaurs developed to walk on two legs, and how the herbivores protect themselves from their more agile predators.
The show also takes the audience through the history of the world and how continents, oceans and volcanoes were created and what led to the extinction of dinosaurs.
Director Scott Faris says: “We go on an incredible journey back in time with a paleontologist. The audience sees these dinosaurs behaving just as they did in their time – the fights, the blood, and fears with the full range of body movements, and roars and snorts.”
Engineer Sonny Tilders says, “Many of the technologies we are using on "WALKING WITH DINOSAURS - The Arena Spectacular” are borrowed from film. The computer software and hardware we have developed are based on feature films. To make it appear that these creatures are flesh and blood, we use a system called ‘muscle bags,’ made from stretch mesh fabric and filled with polystyrene balls, stretched across moving points on the body. They bond and stretch in the same way that muscle, fat, and skin do on real creatures.”
“The puppeteers use ‘voodoo rigs’ (animatronics puppetry) to make many of the dinosaurs move. The puppeteer manipulates the voodoo rig and these actions are sent to the computer and transmitted by radio waves to make the hydraulic tube in the actual dinosaur complete the action.” Five of the smaller dinosaurs are operated by puppeteer specialists, who are inside the creatures.
These life-sized dinosaurs made their debut at Acer Arena in Sydney in January 2007. Three months after their triumphant performance, the creatures arrived in North America.
WALKING WITH DINOSAURS - The Arena Spectacular has enjoyed sold out performances and broken records in arenas all over America – making $135 million in ticket sales. It has been seen on "The Today Show", "Good Morning America", "Live with Regis and Kelly", and has been written about in Newsweek, The New York Times, the Christian Science Monitor and the Wall Street Journal. It was the subject of a Discovery Channel programme and a video clue category on “Jeopardy”, a renowned show in the United States.
The production has won the THEA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Touring Event (2007) and the Billboard Touring Award for Creative Content (2008) as well as the Pollstar Concert Industry Award for Most Creative Stage Production (2009). “WALKING WITH DINOSAURS - The Arena Spectacular” was recognised as an educational, historical, and entertainment project from both the Billboard Touring Awards and the Pollstar Concert Industry Awards.
